What Is the Vivos System?
The Vivos System is a non-invasive, new treatment for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that utilizes oral appliances to reduce a patient’s sleep apnea symptoms. It uses patented technology to restore and reopen the airway, allowing you to breathe easier at night.
Studies have shown that the Vivos System alters the size, shape, and position of the tissues that comprise the human airway, leading to lower mean AHI (apnea-hypopnea index) scores by up to 65.9 percent in patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea. This means patients experience fewer sleep apnea events per hour during sleep.
With customized Vivos oral appliances, you’ll experience benefits that you can’t find with other alternatives, such as:
- Remodeling the entire dental arch
- Reshaping of bone and the maxillofacial occlusion over time
- Creation of a lasting space for airways to remain open
- A custom-fit design that’s comfortable and doesn’t cause damage to the jaws or teeth
Vivos Oral Appliances
At Sac Sleep and Breathing, our Vivos treatment options include two different types of oral appliances: DNA and mRNA. With both appliances, the average treatment time for an adult is approximately 12 to 24 months, after which no further intervention is required for most patients.
The DNA Appliance System
The root of many sleep apnea cases and other airway issues stem from underdeveloped mouth and throat structures. By stimulating your natural genetic systems, we can help your body go through this developmental process and provide the relief you need to restore your sleep quality.
The Vivos Daytime-Nightime Appliances, or DNA System, is specially designed to gently reposition your jaw and open your airway. This creates necessary room in the mouth and airway for patients to breathe comfortably during sleep. Over time, this will help reduce your sleep apnea symptoms. This device is only worn while you sleep and customized for maximum effectiveness and comfortability.
The mRNA Appliance System
The Vivos Mandibular Repositioning-Nighttime Appliance (mRNA) subtly shifts your lower jaw forward, lifting extra tissue to keep your airway unobstructed during sleep. By gently repositioning the lower jaw, patients can experience easier breathing. Wearing this appliance while you sleep allows your jaw structure to continue developing, potentially eliminating snoring and other sleep apnea symptoms.
Best of all, you may not have to wear this appliance for the rest of your life. In many cases, patients who wear the Vivos mRNA oral appliance are eventually able to sleep through the night unassisted.
How the Vivos Process Works
Vivos treatment is a non-invasive, non-surgical way to combat sleep apnea. You’ll start with an initial consultation with Dr. Grivas, a certified Vivos healthcare provider. This is a preliminary consultation to determine your candidacy for Vivos treatment. If Dr. Grivas determines you’re eligible for Vivos treatment, we’ll begin the process of creating your customized appliance.
We’ll utilize our advanced technology to find your precise measurements, ensuring that your custom oral appliance is a perfect fit. Dr. Grivas will create a detailed treatment plan specifically for you. The appliance you’ll use addresses the underlying problem of OSA by allowing the jaw to get into the proper position during sleep.
Once your custom appliance is ready, you’ll wear it while you sleep. Use the appliance as directed by Dr. Grivas to achieve the desired results. Your Vivos oral appliance will be comfortable and practically invisible, allowing for an uninterrupted night’s rest.
Follow-up appointments will be necessary during the duration of your treatment. This allows us to document your progress and ensure you’re on track. Dr. Grivas may make adjustments to your treatment if needed.
